Wilhelm Levi (1883 - 1938)

Wilhelm LeviBreisach, The 'Judengasse' with the Synagogue and the Levi's house, 1920iesWilhelm Levi was born on June 19th, 1883 in Breisach as son of the butcher Raphael Levi and his wife Dusette née Hermerdinger .

On March 8th, 1924 he married Regina Weil (1893 - 1935), a daughter of the butcher Gustav Weil and his wife Mathilde née Menges .

The couple had two children, Ruth (*1925) and Günther Raphael (*1926). After their father's death they were both sent to Switzerland in April 1939 where they survived. Günter was adopted by an elderly lady and lived as a learned watchmaker under her name. Ruth first worked as a kitchen maid, later in the watch making industry. .

Wilhelm was a learned butcher, but due to an accident he later worked as a „Fellhändler” (fur trader) .

Wilhelm Levi's grave in BreisachWilhelm Levi died on June 1th, 1938 in Breisach. The entry for his death is very uncommon: no place of death is given and everything was to be reported back to the „Oberstaatsanwalt” . From this we infer that the death was not a natural one, but we are still searching for details.

There is no entry in the Memorial Book for Wilhelm Levi.
