Calendar 2007

Members of the denkmal-aktiv AG at the Wilhelmi-Gymnasium Sinsheim produced a calendar for 2007  with the title „ehemalige Synagogen 2007” (former synagogues 2007)

It contained pictures by Yannick Dischinger of the former synagogues from the different parts of Sinsheim. These were accompanied by texts that were produced by the pupils. In the description of the project it says:

Unser „Synagogen-Projekt” erwuchs aus dem Engagement für die Erhaltung der ehemaligen Synagoge in Steinsfurt. Drei Schulen – die Realschule Waibstadt, das Adolf-Schmitthenner-Gymnasium Neckarbischofsheim und das Wilhelmi-Gymnasium Sinsheim – fanden sich zusammen, um gemeinsam mit dem Verein „Ehemalige Synagoge Steinsfurt e.V.” die Voraussetzungen für eine Sanierung des Gebäudes und auch seine würdige Zukunft zu schaffen. Aus diesem Ansatz entwickelte sich die Suche nach Spuren jüdischen Lebens in der ganzen Region und für die Projektgruppe des Wilhelmi-Gymnasiums im Besonderen das Entdecken der Dorfsynagogen in der Großen Kreisstadt Sinsheim. Ein Ergebnis dieser Spurensuche ist der vorliegende Kalender, der außergewöhnliche Fotos mit informativen Texten, die aus Schülerarbeiten zu den einzelnen ehemaligen Synagogen hervorgingen, kombiniert.

(Our Synagogues-project grew out of our engagement for the of the former synagogue in Steinsfurt. Three schools met – the Realschule Waibstadt, the Adolf-Schmitthenner Gymnasium Neckargemund and the Wilhelmi-Gymnasium Sinsheim. Together with the society „Alte Synagoge Steinsfurt e.V.”  we tried to create the conditions for restoring the building and establish a worthy future. From this we started the search for vestiges of Jewish life in the whole region. Especially the project group at the Wilhelmi-Gymnasium went on to discover the „village synagogues” still extant within the Große Kreisstadt Sinsheim. The result of this is the calendar which combines exceptional pictures with informative texts. These are from the pupils works on the different synagogues.)

The production of the calendar was made possible by grants from the foundations „denkmal aktiv – Kulturerbe macht Schule” and „Anpfiff ins Leben”. It was produced by Druckpress. The profit was used for the restauration of the synagogue.
